Basic Information
The IEC 62196 Type 2 connector, commonly known as Mennekes after the company that developed it, is primarily used for charging electric vehicles across Europe, where it has been established as the standard by the EU. This connector is based on the widely recognized IEC 60309 three-phase plugs with five pins, which vary in diameter depending on the maximum current (typically 16 A or 32 A). A uniform size was chosen for the Type 2 connector, with maximum power communicated to the vehicle through two additional communication pins and a simple resistor coding within the cable. The car's onboard charger then adjusts the current accordingly.

Electric Car Connector Types
1. AC EV charging Connector
Type 1 is a 1 phase EV conenctors are standard for EVs from America and Asia. It can charge your electric vehicle at a speed of up to 80A 19.2 kW. but most Type 1 electric cars max allowing charging power is 7.4KW or 12KW.
Type 2 EV conenctors are compatible 1 phase and 3 phase because they have three additional conductors to let current run through. Normally the highest type 2 charging power rate is 22 kW at home, while some public EV chargers can have a charging power up to 63A 43 kW.
2. DC EV charging Connector
CHAdeMO: This is a DC fast charging system was developed by Japan, the CHADEMO 1.0 allows the charging spped of 62.5KW max, and the new publish CHADEMO 2.0 allows charging up to 300 kW. And related EV connectors are called CHADEMO plug and CHADEMO socket.
CCS: The CCS plug is an enhanced version of the type 2 connector ( COMBO CCS2) and type 1 connector ( COMBO CCS1), with two additional DC power contacts for the purposes of quick charging. For CCS2 and CCS1 electric vehicle socket, It supports AC and DC charging and It allows charging at a speed of up to 350 kW.
