The CCS2 Combo charging point supports both AC (alternating current) and DC (direct current) charging. It features a Type 2 port for AC charging and a separate port for DC fast charging. What is CCS?
The Combined Charging System (CCS) is a fast charging solution for electric vehicles, similar to the CHAdeMO standard. It provides a quicker charge than regular chargers and is widely used across Europe and North America due to its high power output and compatibility with ultra-rapid chargers.
The CCS plug is an enhanced version of the Type 2 connector, designed to handle both slow and fast charging with two additional DC power pins that enable higher voltage charging.
Why is it called CCS?
CCS stands for "Combined Charging System," as it combines a slow-charging Type 2 connector with two additional DC power lines for faster charging. The connector looks similar to a Type 2 but includes two extra holes for the DC power pins used only by CCS.
Difference Between CCS and CHAdeMO
Both CCS and CHAdeMO connectors are designed for direct current (DC) fast charging. The main difference is that CCS offers both AC and DC charging from the same port, whereas CHAdeMO requires a separate connector for AC charging. Without an adapter, CHAdeMO is incompatible with Type 1 and Type 2 charging standards, making CCS more versatile in its applications.
