Hyundai to Deploy Nearly 600 Fast Charging Stations Across India by 2031
Hyundai is set to accelerate its electric vehicle (EV) plans in India, with plans to install close to 600 fast-charging stations nationwide by 2031. These chargers will be publicly accessible, aiming to support the country's growing EV adoption.

As India's highway network expands and long-distance road trips become increasingly popular, Hyundai has identified concerns among customers regarding the practicality of EVs for highway driving, primarily due to insufficient EV charger. To address this, the company intends to roll out fast chargers in key cities and along major highways.
In Tamil Nadu, where Hyundai manufactures its vehicles in India, the company will install 100 charging stations by 2027. By the end of 2023, 10 of these stations are expected to be operational, with seven more set to open by year's end, following the establishment of three chargers so far.
Hyundai already operates EV chargers in major urban centers like Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Gurugram, Hyderabad, Mumbai, and Pune, as well as along major highways such as Bengaluru-Pune, Delhi-Chandigarh, Delhi-Jaipur, Hyderabad-Vijayawada, Mumbai-Pune, Mumbai-Surat, and Pune-Kolhapur. Over 10,000 Hyundai and non-Hyundai EV owners have utilized these stations, completing around 50,000 charging sessions and consuming 730,000 units of energy. The chargers offer peak outputs of up to 150 kW.
Currently, Hyundai runs only 50 fast chargers in India, as its EV offerings in the market have been limited. The company has sold just over 4,000 electric vehicles, including the first-generation Kona Electric and the earlier version of the Ioniq 5.
Looking ahead, Hyundai plans to expand its EV lineup in India, starting with an electric version of its popular Creta SUV, which will be unveiled at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo in January 2025. The company is also preparing to launch an electric crossover to compete with the Citroën e-C3 in mid-2026, and may later introduce electric versions of the next-gen Venue and i10 models.
