Designwerk Deploys Mega Charger At Galliker For Electric Truck Depot Charging

Designwerk Technologies AG, a Swiss company specializing in electric vehicle charging solutions, has launched its pioneering 'Mega Charger' at Galliker Transport, its pilot customer. This innovative charging station integrates battery support and solar power to cater specifically to electric commercial vehicles.

 

The Mega Charger features two CCS charging points, each delivering a robust 420 kW of power. These charging stations are crucial for enabling electric trucks to embark on long journeys without straining the power grid. Designwerk emphasizes that the system effectively manages charging peaks and helps stabilize fluctuating energy from renewable sources, thereby ensuring grid reliability.

 

According to technical specifications provided by Designwerk, the Stationary Battery Backed Mega Charger (SBC) boasts a total power output of 840 kW from its dual charging points, alongside a substantial battery capacity of up to 1 MWh. Housed in a container measuring 8.6 x 2.55 x 3 meters, the system is designed for flexibility, allowing customization of charging power and battery capacity tailored to customer requirements.

 

The development of this technology stems from Designwerk's ongoing demonstration project, 'Megawatt battery charging system for heavy commercial vehicles,' initiated in early 2022. Collaborating with the Swiss Federal Office of Energy, Bern University of Applied Sciences, and other industry partners, Designwerk aims to advance charging capabilities further. Future iterations of the Mega Charger intend to achieve up to 1.05 MW per charging point with 2 MWh battery capacity, enhancing charging efficiency and scalability.

 

"Designwerk is committed to standardizing the international Megawatt Charging System (MCS), which will support widespread adoption of high-capacity electric vehicle charging solutions," stated a company spokesperson. "Our current deployment at Galliker in Altishofen, Switzerland, underscores our dedication to integrating renewable energy sources seamlessly into transport logistics."

 

The deployment at Galliker's facility not only maximizes solar power utilization but also demonstrates the potential of renewable energy and advanced charging technologies in shaping sustainable transportation solutions. Designwerk anticipates broader deployment of MCS-compatible charging infrastructure as standardization progresses, paving the way for enhanced efficiency and reliability across electric vehicle fleets.
