Milence, a specialist in truck charging solutions, is expanding its operations into Italy with a new charging hub south of Verona. This venture, a collaboration between Daimler Truck, Traton, and the Volvo Group, aims to open the site in the third quarter of this year.
This expansion into Italy marks Milence's latest move following the establishment of charging stations across the Benelux countries, France, Germany, and Sweden. The upcoming charging hub in Bagnolo San Vito, located about 40 kilometers south of Verona along the A22 Brennero motorway, will be the southernmost location in its network.
Describing the A22 motorway as a crucial north-south corridor for the European economy, Milence highlights its strategic importance connecting the Po Valley, Modena, and the A1 motorway to Austria. This location serves as a pivotal entry point into Italy, linking industrial hubs in the north with southern ports and major cities such as Milan, Rome, and Naples.
Milence's approach in Bagnolo San Vito mirrors its strategy elsewhere: initially installing CCS chargers capable of up to 400 kW to serve five charging bays, with plans for additional megawatt chargers in subsequent phases. The site will also include amenities tailored for truck drivers.
CEO Anja Niersen emphasized Milence's commitment to expanding its network along key European routes, facilitating the transition to sustainable transport. The new hub is seen as pivotal in establishing a robust infrastructure supporting electric trucking across Italy and beyond.
In recent announcements, Milence has unveiled several new charging parks, including locations in Germany, with plans to deploy over 1,700 high-power charging points across Europe by 2027. Presently, operational hubs include Venlo in the Netherlands, Heudebouville in France, and Antwerp-Bruges in Belgium, marking significant strides towards their ambitious goals.
