Basic Information
In January 2013, the European Commission selected the IEC 62196-2 Type 2 connector (EV type 2 socket and Type 2 charging plug) as the official standard for charging electric vehicles in the European Union. Since then, it has been adopted by countries outside of Europe, such as New Zealand, Morocco, and various regions in North Africa.
The Electric Car Charging EV Type 2 Socket features a circular design with a flat top edge, which enables a safe and efficient connection. It is designed to handle various power outputs, ranging from 3 kW to 43 kW in the basic configuration.
Charging Capacity of Type 2 Connector
Type 2 Sockets and plugs are known for their robust design and ability to support high power output. They use a seven-pin connector, allowing for:
Single-phase AC power: Up to 70 A
Three-phase AC power: Maximum 63 A, with a maximum voltage of 500 V
This Type 2 Connector design enables efficient charging using alternating current.
Available Charging Modes of Type 2 Connector
The Type 2 Sockets and plugs offers three different charging modes based on the power and current used:
Type 2 Conenctor Mode 1: Basic Charging: Simple charging through a standard 230-volt household plug, with a maximum current of 16 amps and a power output of up to 3.7 kilowatts. It is ideal for charging vehicles in residential environments.
Type 2 Conenctor Mode 2: Enhanced Charging: Enables faster charging with up to 32 amperes in single-phase or three-phase systems, achieving up to 22 kilowatts of power. This mode is suitable for home charging devices and public charging points with higher electricity demand.
Type 2 Conenctor Mode 3: Fast AC Charging: This is the most advanced mode for AC charging, allowing power to exceed 22 kW, with some public charging stations reaching up to 63 kW. It is the preferred choice for public charging stations where charging speed is crucial.
