the CCS1 to CHAdeMO adapter is an adapter designed to allow EVs with a CCS1 (Combined Charging System) port to connect to a CHAdeMO charger.
CCS1 is the fast-charging standard used by most non-Tesla EVs in North America. It combines AC and DC charging into a single connector.
CHAdeMO is an older fast-charging standard developed in Japan. While it's been widely adopted in Japan and some other regions, its use is declining in favor of CCS1.
Some EV owners may encounter older charging stations that only offer CHAdeMO connectors. A CCS1 to CHAdeMO adapter would allow them to charge their CCS1-equipped EV at these stations.
However, these adapters are less common than other types of adapters (like CHAdeMO to Tesla) due to the growing popularity of CCS over CHAdeMO, and the declining number of CHAdeMO charging stations in many regions.
Older Charging Stations: Some charging stations, particularly older ones, only support CHAdeMO for DC fast charging. If your vehicle uses a CCS1 connector and you encounter a station with only CHAdeMO ports, this adapter would allow you to charge.
Limited Charging Options: In some areas, especially rural regions, there may be fewer CCS1 fast chargers, but a number of CHAdeMO stations. Using an adapter would give you access to these chargers.
Third-Party Charging Networks: Certain third-party charging networks may have CHAdeMO chargers, so having the adapter provides more flexibility for your charging needs.
CHAdeMO technology is being phased out in many parts of the world in favor of CCS1.
Availability of a CCS1 to CHAdeMO adapter might be limited, and they can be costly or hard to find, as CCS1 is the more widely adopted standard now.
