V-Green to Establish 100,000 EV Charging Stations in Indonesia

V-Green, a charging infrastructure company founded by Pham Nhat Vuong, the creator of VinFast, has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Prime Group conglomerate to deploy 100,000 electric vehicle charging stations across Indonesia over the next three years. The rollout is expected to start in 2025.

The partnership, which was formalized with an MoU on St. Nicholas' Day, outlines a substantial investment of up to $1.2 billion (about 1.14 billion euros) for the establishment of the planned charging stations. However, the MoU merely expresses the mutual interest of both parties, with a final agreement still pending, which is typical for such letters of intent.

Discussions are likely advanced, as V-Green already has a general rollout plan in place. Initial efforts will focus on deploying VinFast charging stations in key locations such as Jakarta, Surabaya, Bali, and surrounding areas, with plans for further expansion to other Indonesian regions in later stages.

Although specific details about the types of charging stations have not been disclosed, V-Green is expected to prioritize a large number of AC chargers, though DC chargers may also be considered.

The collaboration with the Prime Group, which has operations in the Middle East and Africa, will primarily help secure the necessary financing for the large-scale deployment. Before a final contract is signed, V-Green plans to conduct market research, identify strategic charging locations, and begin building and operating the infrastructure to meet the growing demand for EVs in Indonesia. The first stations are slated to be built starting in January.

Although V-Green operates independently from VinFast's own charging network, its close ties to the automaker remain clear. VinFast currently sells the VF e34 and VF 5 models in Indonesia and is constructing an assembly plant in Subang.

Tamer Wagih Salem, Chairman of Prime Group, expressed confidence that the partnership would significantly benefit both companies and contribute to the expansion of the Southeast Asian EV market. He also sees potential for global expansion, stating that the collaboration would eventually extend to regions such as the Middle East, Europe, the UK, and the US.

Nguyen Thanh Duong, CEO of V-Green, highlighted the strategic value of partnering with a Middle Eastern group, noting that the collaboration would help grow V-Green's global EV charging network. Together, they aim to create a comprehensive EV ecosystem that reduces environmental impact while improving quality of life.
