Zest, a UK-based charging point operator, is set to deploy 150 public electric vehicle chargers across the Borough of Warrington. These EV chargers, which will include both AC and DC units, will be installed on 35 streets in this northwestern English borough.
Although Zest has not specified the exact locations, it aims to place chargers in areas where drivers typically park and might lack home charging options. Installation is scheduled to start in September, but a completion date for the full rollout has not been provided. Additionally, Zest has not indicated how many of the new chargers will be fast chargers. According to the Warrington Borough Council, the goal is to have all EV chargers operational by Spring 2025.
The project will involve an investment of £1.2 million (approximately €1.4 million) from Zest, supplemented by a £386,580 grant (about €449,000) from the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV) under its Local EV Infrastructure (LEVI) program.
Warrington Borough Council Leader Cllr Hans Mundry expressed enthusiasm about the project, noting the significant benefits it will bring to residents by enhancing the convenience of EV charging.
