char.gy will assume responsibility for managing all 950 EV charging stations in the London boroughs of Richmond and Wandsworth. The transition will occur in three stages, with the final phase expected to conclude by November next year.
The initial phase, involving 399 charging stations, was completed recently. Once the entire migration process is finished, char.gy will see its network grow by one-third. These chargers are predominantly lamppost-mounted.
Currently, char.gy operates 3,000 charging points and has recently secured £100 million in funding from Zouk Capital to support its expansion plans.
John Lewis, CEO of char.gy, expressed pride in being selected by the Richmond and Wandsworth councils, calling it a pioneering step in EV infrastructure development. He emphasized that this partnership introduces increased competition, which benefits both councils and electric vehicle drivers.
The boroughs of Wandsworth and Richmond had previously announced plans to enhance their lamppost charging network. Ubitricity was slated to install 1,050 new 5 kW lamppost chargers last year, and according to Wandsworth's official website, Ubitricity will continue as one of the two operators.
