SingHealth, Singapore's prominent public healthcare provider, has embarked on a significant initiative to enhance sustainability by deploying 300 electric vehicle (EV) charging points across its facilities by 2028. In collaboration with SP Group, the state-owned electricity and gas distribution company, SingHealth aims to support Singapore's broader decarbonization efforts through this infrastructure expansion.
The first phase of this initiative has already commenced with the installation of twelve EV chargers at the SingHealth Tower located within the Singapore General Hospital (SGH) Campus. These EV chargers, capable of delivering 7.4 kW, are accessible to both visitors and staff, facilitating convenient EV charging directly on-site. According to local reports, charging an EV like the BYD Atto 3 for an hour using these stations adds approximately 50 km of range, with charging costs set at SGD 0.654 (EUR 0.45) per session, mirroring SP Group's rates at Housing Board carparks.
SingHealth plans to scale up its EV charging infrastructure significantly over the next few years. By the end of 2024, the organization aims to install more than 80 EV charging points in collaboration with SP Group, including fast-charging options to cater to different user needs.
The rollout will extend to various key locations within SingHealth's network by December 2024, including the Changi General Hospital Campus, KK Women's and Children's Hospital Campus, Sengkang General Hospital Campus, and several specialized healthcare centers such as the National Heart Centre Singapore, National Cancer Centre Singapore, and Singapore National Eye Centre.
The initiative aligns with SingHealth's broader sustainability goals to reduce its environmental footprint. The healthcare sector, which accounts for nearly 5% of global greenhouse gas emissions, is actively exploring strategies like decarbonization to achieve greater eco-friendliness across its operations.
Singapore's commitment to environmental sustainability extends beyond its healthcare sector. The nation has set ambitious targets under its Green Plan, including banning the sale of diesel cars and taxis from January 1, 2025, and deploying 60,000 EV charging points by 2030. State-owned entities like SingHealth and SP Group, alongside private sector players such as CPO Volt, play crucial roles in realizing these goals through collaborative efforts to expand EV infrastructure nationwide.
As Singapore continues to pave the way for greener transportation solutions, initiatives like SingHealth's EV charging deployment underscore the country's
