According to state news agency Xinhua, a new initiative in Jiangsu province involves electric vehicles charging during off-peak hours and supplying power back to the grid when demand spikes. The project, run by State Grid Jiangsu Electric Power, has enlisted 1,277 electric vehicles at 482 charging stations by offering discount vouchers to participants.

An official from the grid operator mentioned that the number of electric vehicles in Jiangsu is projected to surpass 10 million by 2030. If 10% of these vehicles participate in reverse discharging, they could collectively provide over 1 million kilowatts of peak-shaving capacity, effectively acting as a massive "portable power bank" for the grid.

Additionally, State Grid Jiangsu Electric Power is experimenting with vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology using electric buses, though the test currently involves only two buses. Jiang Renxin, Director of the Marketing Department at State Grid Zhenjiang Yangzhong Power Supply Company, explained that buses have advantages over regular electric vehicles, such as higher discharge capacity per charge, consistent charging schedules, and scalability. These features offer a promising new approach to enhancing green transportation, promoting clean energy use, and ensuring power supply stability in the region.
