EnBW has achieved a significant milestone by installing its 5,000th fast-charging point across Germany. Since introducing its first units in 2016, the energy supplier has rapidly expanded its network and plans to add another 1,000 charging points by the end of this year.
To commemorate this achievement, EnBW has released a timeline showcasing the growth of its fast-charging infrastructure in Germany. Initially starting with a modest number of chargers between 2016 and 2018, the network expanded to 1,000 charging points operational by 2020. By the end of 2022, EnBW had reached 3,000 charging points. Although growth slowed somewhat in 2023, EnBW aims to accelerate again in the latter half of 2024 to achieve 6,000 fast chargers by year-end. Looking ahead, the company targets an ambitious goal of 30,000 fast-charging points by 2030, a fivefold increase from the end of 2024, with an annual investment of approximately 200 million euros.
Despite a slower pace in the first half of 2024, EnBW highlights a notable increase in the deployment of 400 kW chargers compared to the same period last year, signaling ongoing progress in high-power infrastructure.
Colette Rückert-Hennen, EnBW board member overseeing e-mobility, emphasizes their commitment to providing the largest nationwide fast-charging network in Germany, catering to drivears of all electric vehicle brands. She underscores EnBW's customer-centric approach, ensuring that fast chargers are conveniently located where people shop, park, or take breaks during long-distance journeys.
Recently, EnBW inaugurated a new hub in Heiligenhafen on the Baltic Sea, featuring twelve HPC charging points capable of up to 300 kW. Earlier this year, the 'NextLevel Ladepark' in Lichtenau near Chemnitz exemplified EnBW's innovative approach, showcasing sustainable features such as a wooden roof, low-CO2 transformers, and paving stones made from recycled materials. The location also offers amenities like low-barrier charging stations, seating areas, automated toilets, a children's educational playground, and an automated "Rewe ready shop."
EnBW continues to lead the charge in expanding Germany's fast-charging infrastructure, enhancing accessibility and convenience for electric vehicle users nationwide.
