The province of British Columbia is finalizing its "Electric Highway" project this month, creating a comprehensive network of public fast-charging stations for electric vehicles (EVs) along major roads and highways. The network will ensure charging stations are available approximately every 150 kilometres.

The Electric Highway consists of over 310 fast chargers spread across 155 locations, with many sites also equipped with Level 2 chargers for faster charging. According to project organizers, all stations will be operational and open to the public by the end of September.

This initiative is a collaborative effort, involving the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure, private sector partners, local governments, and Indigenous communities. The province contributed over $13 million CAD to the project through the "GoElectric Public Charger Program."

Josie Osborne, Minister of Energy, Mines and Low Carbon Innovation, emphasized the impact on local communities: "People are adopting clean energy solutions, including electric vehicles, in record numbers. This Electric Highway will connect our province and make clean energy more accessible.

In addition to completing the highway charging network, British Columbia has also announced a $14 million expansion of the "GoElectric Home and Workplace Charger Program." Managed by BC Hydro and FortisBC, the program provides funding for home and workplace charging infrastructure and is already accepting applications.
