Allego to Launch Plug&Charge by Late 2024

UK: Zest To Install 150 Public EV Chargers in The Borough Of Warrington

Fast-charging provider Allego has announced plans to roll out its Plug&Charge technology, based on OCPP 2.0.1, across its European network by the fourth quarter of 2024. This new feature will enable seamless, secure charging without the need for RFID cards or mobile apps.

Allego's Plug&Charge will enhance security and ensure compatibility with future electric vehicle (EV) and charging technologies through the use of OCPP 2.0.1. According to Allego, the technology was developed in partnership with industry leaders such as Alpitronic and Ford, making it one of the most secure Plug&Charge implementations available.

Plug&Charge simplifies the charging process by using digital certificates for automatic authentication and billing when an EV is connected to the charging station. This new method not only standardizes the payment and charging process across various networks and regions, but also offers greater convenience to drivers. The initial rollout will take place in the Netherlands and Germany, followed by other European markets.

Guillaume Goijen, Director of Charging Solutions & Site Design at Allego, commented, "Our Plug&Charge technology simplifies charging sessions while ensuring they remain secure and tamper-proof, thanks to the use of encrypted, certificate-based authentication."
