Why only Tesla charging stations support one click lid opening?

One button opening function is a major selling point for Tesla charging stations and cars;

One opening function is to press and hold the button on the EV charging plug and approach the Vehicle charging port, and the charging port cover will automatically open;


One button opening is implemented using Bluetooth or RF modules, but with proprietary protocols:
Tesla's One button opening function is composed of a remote control module with wireless radio frequency transmission and a gun head S3 button. The wireless RF transmission frequency used by the Chinese version of Tesla is 433MHz, while the wireless RF transmission frequency used by the North American version of Tesla is 315MHz. The RF transmission remote control module is actually similar to vehicle keys, TV remote controls, etc. Its communication information is not encrypted, and the coding of each vehicle is exactly the same. The non Tesla original one click open lids currently available on the market are all cracked and copied to burn their communication code information into the RF chip, thus achieving the same function as Tesla's original factory.


433MHz and 315MHz are two commonly used frequency bands in wireless remote control technology, each with its own advantages and disadvantages:
a. The advantages of 433MHz are long transmission distance and strong anti-interference ability, making it suitable for industrial control, security monitoring and other fields; The disadvantage is that the cost is relatively high.
b. The advantage of 315MHz is its low cost and suitability for household electronic products such as televisions, air conditioners, etc; The disadvantage is that the transmission distance is relatively short and susceptible to interference from other electronic devices.


The RF module chip adopts ASK (amplitude shift keying) modulation technology, which is simply understood as amplitude modulation, using different amplitudes to represent different information. When it is necessary to transmit "1", the transmitting source sends a higher carrier amplitude; When transmitting '0', use the simplest method to send a lower carrier amplitude.
The communication distance of this RF module is adjustable, generally ranging from 1-10m. When the module is placed in the gun head, the communication distance is reduced. Only when the gun head is close to the vehicle's gun socket can the communication cover be established, which can effectively avoid opening the charging covers of other Tesla vehicles around. When placing the module inside the pile, considering the distance between the pile and the vehicle, the communication distance is generally increased to about 8m, so that the gun head can be opened without approaching the vehicle. However, if there are other Teslas within the range, other vehicles will also be opened.


The working principle is as follows: the transmitting module has three pins, among which the VCC and Gnd power pins are connected to a 3.3V/5V power supply, and the Key pin is connected to the single pole double throw S3 switch of the charging gun head. When the S3 button on the gun head is pressed, the Key level is low. After receiving the low level signal, the transmission module starts transmitting a 433MHz wireless signal that Tesla can recognize. The vehicle receives the signal and the charging cover is opened.

Nowadays, more and more car manufacturers are also providing charging stations and cars that support one click lid opening. Many small DC charging stations customized and developed by car companies such as NIO, Jike, and Jiyue all support one click lid opening function.
