Type 1 connectors are mainly distributed in North America and are used for household charging of AC power sources. The official standard is SAE J1772, which has a 5-pin configuration. The electric vehicle revolution is rapidly changing the way we travel. With the popularity of electric vehicles, the demand for standardized charging connectors has become increasingly important.
At present, the connectors for electric vehicles have not yet achieved global standardization. Like mobile phone chargers, different countries use different connector standards; The following are the main types of connectors currently available:
SAE J1772 connector, also called Type1 connector, developed by the Society of Automotive Engineers in the United States. With its unique design, the J1772 connector can serve as a universal interface, enabling electric vehicles to seamlessly connect with charging stations. The Type1 connector can operate at voltages of 110V or 240V and can only be used for single phase AC charging;
When you are out in Europe, it is unlikely that you will find a Type 1 charging inlet. Because Type 2 connectors are commonly used in Europe; But if your electric car is an early Nissan Leafs, Kia Soul, Peugeot iOn, or Citroen C-Zero, you will find that all of these electric cars have EV Charging Inlet Type1 sockets; However, you don't have to worry about charging, as you can use TYPE2 TO TYPE1 cables or TYPE2 TO TYPE1 adapters to charge your car. The Type 2 connector is commonly referred to as the "Mennekes" connector, named after the German manufacturer who invented this design. They have a 7-pin plug.
The EU recommends using type 2 connectors, which are sometimes mentioned in the official standard 62196-2. Type 2 connectors can operate at single-phase 240V and three-phase 380V voltages.

The Type 2 socket modified by Tesla can be found on the Model s and Model X in Europe, which can be charged at home with a regular household AC power source or quickly charged with DC power.


Almost every electric vehicle sold today is equipped with CCS EV Charging Inlet sockets. CCS is an abbreviation for combined charging system, which helps with fast and ultra fast charging.
