What is Rapid Charger?

Rapid chargers, also referred to as "on-the-road chargers," are primarily designed for quick recharging during longer journeys. These chargers offer significantly faster charging speeds, with outputs ranging from 50kW to as much as 350kW. Those providing 100kW or more are often called ultra-rapid chargers.

Due to their high power and ability to serve multiple vehicles at once, rapid Electric Charging Station tend to be larger in size. The amount of time it takes to charge depends on the charger's power, your vehicle's charging capability, and the battery size. Typically, a stop at a rapid charger lasts around 30 minutes or less.

To find out your vehicle's maximum rapid charging rate, you can refer to your car's manual or look it up on the manufacturer's website.

Rapid Electric Charging Station generally come with two types of connectors: CHAdeMO and CCS. Most modern electric vehicles are compatible with CCS, but it's always important to verify which connector your car uses. These connectors are tethered to the charger, so you don't need to bring your own cable.

Some companies are now using the term "en-route chargers" to describe rapid chargers. This helps to distinguish between charging at your destination and charging while on a longer journey, where speed and efficiency are more important.

How to Use A Rapid Electric Charging Station?

Using a rapid charger is straightforward:

1. Park your vehicle: Pull up to the charging station, positioning your car so that the charging port is close to the charger.

2. Connect the charger: Unhook the appropriate charging cable from the station's holster and plug it into your vehicle's charging port.

3. Payment: Most rapid chargers support contactless payments, though some may require an account or an app. Payment instructions are typically displayed on the charging station.

As charging technology advances, industry terms for these rapid chargers may continue to change, but their goal remains the same: offering faster, more efficient ways to charge your electric vehicle on the go.
