Project EV Launches MCS Charger with Vehicle-to-Grid Technology

UK-based charge point provider Project EV has unveiled a new charging solution designed for the commercial vehicle market. This charger delivers 1 MW of power and incorporates vehicle-to-grid (V2G) functionality, offering potential revenue generation for electric commercial fleets.

London's Enfield Borough Launches Charging Pilot Project

The company highlights that the charger is specifically engineered for high-demand environments such as commercial facilities, large fleet operations, and motorway service areas. It features a power cabinet that supports up to ten charging points, compatible with both liquid-cooled and air-cooled systems.

Details about this new charger are limited, but it was developed in collaboration with the UK Department for Energy Security & Net Zero and Innovate UK. It is described as one of the first chargers of its kind in the UK.

This new charger is also part of the Electric Heavy Goods Vehicles – First Roll-Out and Demonstration of V2X and Grid Decarbonisation project. The initiative aims to explore the potential of electric heavy goods vehicles (eHGVs) in V2G services, focusing on load balancing, frequency stabilization, and overall grid resilience. The project aims to demonstrate how integrating V2X technology into chargers and vehicles can significantly reduce the total cost of ownership for fleet operators. Kaasai Services leads the project, which received £1.4 million in funding from the UK government.

Richard Pink, Chief Technology Officer at Project EV, commented, "We are thrilled to be part of this pioneering project, which is supported by the V2X Innovation Programme funded by the Department for Energy Security & Net Zero and managed by Innovate UK. Our team has worked diligently over the past year to design and provide cutting-edge hardware for this trial. We are incredibly proud of the versatile charging solution we've created, featuring multiple charging guns to meet various customer needs. This project is a significant step forward in advancing sustainable transportation and decarbonizing our energy systems."
