Norwegian CPOs Lag Behind in Implementing Card Payment at DC Chargers

E.On And MAN To Expand Truck Charging Network Across Europe

Norwegian charge point operators (CPOs) have been required to offer card payment options at DC fast chargers since last year, but the rollout has been slow. Many CPOs are taking advantage of a loophole in the regulation that allows older chargers ordered before the July 2023 deadline to be installed without card readers. Currently, only 25% of DC chargers in Norway are equipped with the necessary card payment systems.

A recent report highlights that Tesla has not installed any card payment options on its 2,000+ Superchargers in Norway, seemingly disregarding the regulation. Similarly, other operators like eviny have yet to provide card payment solutions, while no data is available for the 360 Ionity stations across the country.

Norwegian Electric Vehicle Association's general secretary, Christina Bu, expressed frustration, stating, "Our patience is over. We expect to see card payment available at Tesla and Eviny fast chargers by the autumn holidays."

On a positive note, some operators like Uno X and Ragde have implemented card payment at all their fast-charging stations, though they manage significantly fewer chargers, with 300 and 46 respectively.
