Dongfeng Motor Company Limited (DFL), the Chinese joint venture between Dongfeng and Nissan, is planning to launch ten new electrified models by 2026 and also intends to export its vehicles from 2025.
As per the Wuhan-based company's statement, there are plans to craft ten novel models in China categorized under 'new energy vehicles.' These encompass a range from electric cars to fuel cell vehicles and plug-in hybrids. Notably, four of these upcoming models are earmarked as Nissan-branded vehicles, with the inaugural Nissan model anticipated to hit the market in the latter part of 2024. Presently, DFL has refrained from disclosing further specifics about these models.
Simultaneously, the joint venture has unveiled intentions to commence vehicle exports starting from 2025. However, the exact destination countries for these exports remain undisclosed. The initial objective is to export approximately 100,000 vehicles annually. These strategic unveilings are integral to a fresh initiative dubbed DNA+, aiming to "reshape and propel further development" within the company. This initiative is structured to leverage the abundant resources available in China and accelerate research and development in alignment with the swiftly evolving market landscape.
DFL, established in 2003, commemorates its 20th anniversary this year. Since 2012, Dongfeng Motor Company Limited has been actively producing its own innovations under the Venucia brand. The joint venture had earlier introduced a "green" roadmap in 2018, followed by a subsequent announcement in 2020 outlining plans for a minimum of 17 electrified models across brands such as Dongfeng, Nissan, Venucia, and Infiniti by 2023. However, during that time, this also encompassed hybrid vehicles. Presently, aside from the Sylphy Zero Emission, the DFL website does not feature any other purely electric vehicles.
