How to Charge at a DC Fast Charger?
As electric vehicles (EVs) grow in popularity, the need for fast chargers will increase significantly. If you're new to using fast chargers, this guide will walk you through the process.

1. Find a DC Fast Charger
The first step is to locate a fast charger. Unlike gas stations, EV chargers can be harder to spot as they may be located in parking lots or behind buildings. The easiest way to find one is through a dedicated EV charging app, which provides information on charger locations, availability, and power output. Popular apps such as Google Maps and Apple Maps also list EV charging stations.
Remember, the maximum charging speed is determined by your vehicle's capability. For example, although some stations provide up to 400 kW, most EVs can only handle between 125-150 kW.
2. Locate the Charging Cable

4. Start the Charging Session

Fast charging tends to be more expensive than home or public AC charging, reflecting the higher speeds and convenience offered. Stations usually charge a premium to offset the cost of maintaining fast-charging infrastructure.
5. Stop the Charging Session
When your vehicle's battery reaches the desired charge level, you'll need to end the session. If you started charging through an app, you can stop the session via the app. If you used a fob, tapping it again may be required to halt the charging process.
Most fast chargers also have interactive displays where you can stop the session directly. Remember, the charging cable will remain locked to your vehicle until the session ends. Once complete, return the cable to its holder, and you're ready to hit the road.
