What is Combo CCS ?
The Combined Charging System (CCS) is a standard for charging electric vehicles. It uses the Combo 1 and Combo 2 connectors to provide power at up to 500 kilowatts. These two connectors are extensions of the IEC 62196 Type 1 and Type 2 connectors, with two additional direct current (DC) contacts to allow high-power DC fast charging.
In the past, usually the electric vehicles only have a AC charging inlet, with the fast develop of e-mobility and in order to reduce people wait time, DC charging came into being.
And Combined Charging Connectors integrated AC charging and DC charging into one.
The vehicle coupler is composed of the vehicle connector, which is mounted at the end of a flexible cable, and the vehicle inlet, the counterpart of the connector, which is located within the vehicle.
The CCS2 inlet socket is extending the inlet with two additional DC contacts below the existing AC and it compatible with both Type 2 vehicle connectors and additional CCS2 vehicle connectors (EV charging plug).
The CCS electric car charging plugs contain five contact pins: two small contacts and three large contacts. The top two small contacts for signals, the middle pin is used for grounding, and the bottom two pins are used for power supply.
